and our recovery performances

See below for shows you can book!

The wearing of masks has taken on a significance we could never have predicted at the beginning of 2020.  Commedia dell’Arte performers wear highly stylized masks to present characters in storytelling that is fun, highly physical and adaptable to many contexts.  Commedia dell’Arte shows have a tradition of audience participation and here at The Complete Commedia Company we pride ourselves in developing stories that have universal appeal and relevance.  The wearing of masks has a powerful new significance that our work can help individuals and communities come to terms with.

This summer, the summer of 2021, theatre and performance will have an important role to play in bringing people back to together.  The Complete Commedia Company shows:

  • Are ideal for socially distanced outdoor spaces and ‘pop up’ theatre moments (as well as seated indoor performances)

  • Create joyful moments of shared experience with universal appeal

  • Are led by highly skilled performers

  • Travel light and set up without the need for technical support, staging etc.

  • Adapt to just about any situation – bespoke service is also available

  • Reclaim mask-wearing as a positive part of performance and character

  • Offer a high degree of accessibility  - highly physical and vibrantly visual - the shows are great for including audiences with a range of access needs

  • Can be linked to education / participation workshops for people of all ages, abilities and experience.   We are skilled, specialised practitioners with experience in delivering workshops linked to our shows.  These could include for example: physical theatre, clowning, slapstick,  (helping teachers to teach drama outdoors), mask making (art and design, maths, materials); conflict resolution (health and wellbeing) or simply having fun devising and telling stories.

NEWS! Commedia Community Chorus: Summer 2021

Complete Commedia Co. are ecstatic to announce that despite cancellations and closures caused by COVID19, we are active again and ready to curate Thurrock’s first Commedia Community Chorus this summer. Funded by Arts Council England, comedic chaos will be in our schools this summer and we can’t wait!

Current Developments

2021 Embracing our role as a Trailblazer Cultural Partner, The Complete Commedia Co is reaching even more learners from 10 to19 years in Thurrock.  The exciting news is, we have been awarded Learning Offer Development Fund (LODF) funding by Royal Opera House (ROH) Bridge to broaden the range of workshops we provide to our schools. The funding has facilitated collaborations with Strangeface, Trestle and Told by An Idiot - companies whose work with masks is legendary.

The Complete Commedia Company is currently working with Outer Limits; a National Theatre Funded outreach project with The Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, to establish a creatives network in Thurrock and has been accepted onto the Mercury Creatives mentoring programme for business development.
